FASTSIGNS® Owner Named Rotarian of the Year by Culver City Rotary Club
(CULVER CITY, Calif.) July 13, 2011 – Clint Ehlers, owner of the Culver City FASTSIGNS® sign and graphicscenter located at 5554 Sepulveda Blvd., has been named the Rotarian of the Year by the Culver City Rotary Club.
A Rotarian of the Year is named only if the outgoing club president chooses to do so, although most do not. When joining a Rotary Club, a person joins to uphold the goal of “Service above Self” and members take on different voluntary positions within a club in an effort to give back to their community. A Rotarian of the Year is named when a member exceeds the expectations placed on Rotarians.
“Every once in a while, a member goes above and beyond their position. That person quietly goes about helping wherever they can, contributing not just monetarily but in enthusiasm and hands-on participation. That is Clint,” explained Linda Black, president of the Culver City Rotary Club from 2010 to 2011. “He is always willing to help, quick to volunteer and amazing in his support. He truly exemplifies the highest example of ‘Service above Self’. Clint just did things, without even being asked, that added so much to our club. He made us better.”
Ehlers was honored on June 25 at the Presidential Demotion Party, an event in which a Rotary Club’s past president steps down and a new president is welcomed. Since opening the Culver City FASTSIGNS center in 2007, Ehlers has been involved with several organizations, including the Culver City and Santa Monica Chambers of Commerce. This year marks the second year that Ehlers will be serving as the Rotary Club’s treasurer.
“It means a great deal to be recognized with this honor and I am both surprised and humbled to receive it,” said Ehlers. “Ever since joining the Culver City Rotary Club, I have really enjoyed all of the projects that the club has taken part in, such as supporting the Culver City school district and the Culver City YMCA. We are even partnering with the Rotary Club in Pune, India in order to rebuild schools and water wells, train teachers, and provide school supplies in one of the poorest areas of the city.”
“In a time when community service is often looked upon as drudgery, when ‘volunteerism’ is often talked about but rarely practiced, Culver City is lucky to have Clint as an example of someone who both ‘talks the talk’ and ‘walks the walk’,” said Andrew Weissman, former mayor of Culver City and fellow Culver City Rotarian. “In the various projects Clint and I have worked together, he is unfailingly friendly, engaged and has an attitude that suggests to me that he approaches projects as opportunities to help and not as obligations to be fulfilled. We could only hope to have more community-minded people like Clint in Culver City.”
