Signs of Success as Phoenix FASTSIGNS® Celebrates 20 Years in Business

Center's long-time manager becomes partner

(Phoenix, Az.) February 1, 2010 ? Ross Meagher, owner of the FASTSIGNS® sign and graphics center on East Indian School Road has seen an industry change and evolve over the past 20 years. He opened his FASTSIGNS center in 1990, and the business has adapted to drastic economic and technological changes, meeting customers' sign and graphics needs with ease. In addition to celebrating 20 years of service to the community, FASTSIGNS is also pleased to announce that manager, Dorena Mello, who has been with the center since its opening, has become a full partner in the business.

"At the time we opened in 1990, there were very few sign companies in Phoenix that used computers," said Meagher. "The idea that you could sell the concept of computer-produced signs in a retail location was very new and worth a try." By adapting and staying informed on technology trends, FASTSIGNS has been able to provide a more cost-effective product to its customers without sacrificing quality.

Every year brings new advances in technology, introducing a variety of printers and sign-making equipment that produce projects faster, more accurately and affordably. The staff is constantly aware of what innovative technologies are coming into play in the sign and graphics industry—all of which are being created to meet the growing demands of the sign-buying public. "Twenty years ago we would have to re-create customers logos," said Meagher when thinking back to the early days of the business. "Today they are all e-mailed so it is a much faster and convenient process all around."

The changes in the economy have also presented challenges to the team over the past 20 years, but they have taken it in stride and adapted the business to work with their customers' needs in trying and prosperous times. "It seems to some extent we have come full circle," muses Mello. Meagher agrees. "With the economy today, it seems like we are just starting out again. Every phone call is special, and we are building the business again."

The products produced by FASTSIGNS centers have increased dramatically over the years. As the center's customer base grew, the demand for products increased. "FASTSIGNS has proven to be a good outlet for products other than simple signs," says new partner, Mello. "Today we sell tradeshow booths, dimensional letters and logos, screenprinting, large format digital printing, custom ADA signs, building suite signs and directories, traffic signs and much more. FASTSIGNS has become a virtual one-stop shop for almost any sign and graphic product."

The longevity of employees as well as customers have been key to the success of the center over the past 20 years. Mello has blended her experience from publishing, hospitality and HR management and turned it into a 20-year career that led her to full business partnership. "I'm blessed to still love what I do 20 years later and now I can actually say ‘yes I am the owner'."

Other employees have been with FASTSIGNS for nearly 19 years and some repeat customers have been with them since day one. Meagher and Mello believe that there is a right way and wrong way to do business and treat your customers, and that is what's created such a loyal following in both staff and clients.
