Want to know how to estimate an inch when you’re in a pinch?
Here are five tips from the experts at FASTSIGNS® on how you can measure when you don’t have anything to measure with.
Number one: Use a dollar bill. The U.S. paper currency is exactly 6 inches by 2-1/2 inches and can be folded for smaller measurements.
Number two: Use a standard sheet of paper. Standard paper measures 8-1/2 by 11 inches and provides an instant ruler, even when you fold it in half.
Number three: Use a standard brick. A brick measures 2-1/4 inches by 8 inches and is a great frame of reference when you’re measuring for exterior signage.
Number four. Want to go bigger? Use your wingspan. An average person’s height is measured the same as their wingspan, from fingertip to fingertip.
Tip number five. Go digital. Download a measurement app for either your smartphone or tablet to help you calculate distance.
