Durango FASTSIGNS® Helps Bring Local Dollars Back to the CommunityThe Durango FASTSIGNS® sign and graphics center has been contracted to be the advertising provider for the Durango - La Plata County Airport
(DURANGO, Colo.) January 4, 2011—The Durango FASTSIGNS® sign and graphics center has been contracted to be the advertising provider for the Durango - La Plata County Airport for the next five years, a project previously managed by Clear Channel Communications out of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
“Through the previous advertising provider, local business money was going out of state, but now all revenue that passes through this project over the next five years will go right back into our community,” explains Laurie Sigillito, owner of the Durango FASTSIGNS. “Any dollar spent locally is typically recycled in the community three times which means, over the course of the five-year contract, we could essentially encourage millions of dollars to be circulated throughout the Durango community.”
Passengers and visitors at the Durango airport are now greeted by the new, more energy-efficient dynamic digital screens just installed by FASTSIGNS. Previously, advertisements were housed on multiple backlit displays. When advertisers wanted to change out their message, the signage material was thrown away and new materials were purchased. With FASTSIGNS’ Dynamic Digital Signage solution, advertisements can be easily changed out, allowing for increased flexibility and less environmental waste.
“We removed fifteen backlit displays and installed two large, efficient digital screens in our goal to eliminate the excess throw-away material that was being used,” says Sigillito. “This creates a cleaner, streamlined solution for the airport, provides a nimble venue for more advertisers and is less visual clutter for passengers as they wait.”
It was in October 2009 when Sigillito first approached the management at Durango Airport to inquire about the possibility of FASTSIGNS fulfilling the airport’s visual communications needs instead of Clear Channel. In April 2010, after multiple meetings and presentations, the airport finally released the project for bid and Sigillito was given the chance to submit a proposal. In July, the contract was awarded and the Durango FASTSIGNS team has been in full gear, even hiring a new team member, Jessica Unruh, to successfully coordinate the airport’s new system.
“We were very pleased that we were able to award the contract to a local firm,” said Airport Director Ron Dent. “Their creativity and their responsiveness to the specific needs of our local businesses have exceeded our expectations.”
The contract has Sigillito and her team responsible for the hardware and software, as well as the advertising. In addition to the Durango – La Plata County Airport, Durango FASTSIGNS was awarded a 5-year contract for Telluride Airport advertising, providing local businesses a regional advertising reach.
