Medical facilities and hospital campuses can be large and are often confusing to new visitors. Having clear and effective communication is one part of the intricate process of a healthcare facility providing uninterrupted and quality care. Hardin Memorial Healthcare is a collection of facilities with a medical staff of more than 200 professionals, representing over 40 specialties.

Through expansion and renovation projects over the years, the regional healthcare facility now utilizes a variety of signs and graphics to help people find their way and keep visitors and staff safe. Here are a few examples of the visual communications that Hardin Memorial Healthcare has in place to enhance the patient and visitor experience.

Identification

Exterior dimensional letters and logos help distinguish buildings at a distance. Entrances clearly marked with door graphics let people know where to enter. Once inside, areas including offices, patient rooms, treatment areas and stairwells, are identified with mounted signs and door plaques.

Site signs are placed around the property to help direct traffic and get people to the part of the campus they need to be. Branded wayfinding signs are hung throughout hallways and mounted on walls to help visitors find their way.

Comforting

At the Hardin Memorial Cancer Care Center, interior decor graphics on windows, glass partitions and canvas art prints feature nature scenery to surround patients with a calming environment and make treatment spaces more private.

Safety and Compliance

Regulation-compliant signs with Braille are installed throughout to help keep patients, visitors and staff safe. Hazardous and restricted areas are labeled with universal visual graphics. Patient rooms use glass boards that are easily wiped clear to protect patient information and minimize germs. Graphics block out the windows in the nursery and NICU areas to comply with patient privacy laws.

Maintaining a regional medical facility requires continuous attention to detail. Hardin Memorial Healthcare has a variety of signs and graphics in place to enhance wayfinding for visitors, extend their branding and improve the patient experience—all while keeping code compliance and safety a top priority.
