Visual Elements Transform Church Home for Growing Congregation

The Challenge

As a result of their rapid growth, Journey Christian Church leaders began exploring options for a new site to accommodate their developing congregation. Construction began to renovate an empty building and Journey Christian Church turned to FASTSIGNS® to assist with the transformation.

The Solution

The church décor and branding was designed by Scott Herbert at Aesthetic Answers in Washington, D.C. FASTSIGNS worked closely with Herbert to bring the organic, yet modern vision to life. FASTSIGNS created custom products that fit both the church’s vision and their budget.

The wayfinding signage was created from cedar and birch. Some of the signs were hand-distressed by FASTSIGNS team members to achieve the desired reclaimed look before stain was applied.

Magnetic receptive graphics were installed for “UpStreet,” the elementary school-age children’s area. The magnetic signs provide an engaging element and allows for the graphics to be changed as desired. In “Waumba Land,” designated for infants and toddlers, FASTSIGNS created several dimensional signs from Herbert’s designs that also serve as fun, youthful décor.

Dimensional signage throughout the church adds visual interest, including the children’s areas. Colorful murals and wall graphics infuse an upbeat atmosphere while still adhering to the clean, modern aesthetics of the building. Wooden dimensional letters tie into the natural look and help direct visitors and congregants to the building’s many spaces. Room identification signs are easy to read, clean and change in order to accommodate differing service and gathering sizes.

The Result

“Every piece on the campus is thoughtful and unique; we put a lot of careful contemplation and planning into it,” said FASTSIGNS’ Rob White. “Scott Herbert, the designer, had a vision and we helped him carry it through. In the end, it came together beautifully and the signage blended with their flooring, walls and décor. One of the most important outcomes of this signage project is that the staff and members can feel at home now.”
