We are going to share 8 steps for how to hang wooden or dimensional letters, but first, here are the
tools you’ll need for this job:
- Bubble Level
- Tape measure
- 1" width masking tape
- Pencil
- Isopropyl alcohol
- Paper Towels or Rag
- X-acto Knife or scissors
- Double sided foam tape for as needed
Step 1: Determine the place on the wall where you’d like to hang your letters.
Step 2: Using a lint rag, clean the surface to remove any dust, debris, or contaminants.
Step 3: Using two small pieces of 1” width masking tape, temporarily adhere your paper pattern to the
wall.
Step 4: Using a tape measure, measure from the floor to the common horizontal line across the lowest
flat part of the letters. Measuring the outermost flat letters as your guide will ensure the pattern is
straight. DO NOT measure two letters side by side as your guide.
Also, DO NOT measure a round letter, as they will descend below the horizontal baseline.
Use bubble level to make sure it is perfectly straight.
Step 5: Run a line of tape all the way across the bottom of the pattern once the position is final. You will
want to make sure the tape is fully attached to the pattern and wall surface.
Step 6: Once pattern is in place, release the pattern from the top so that only the bottom is attached to
the wall. You will then cut the pattern so that only about 1/2"-3/4" of the letter outline shows. You will
use this remaining part of the pattern as placement for the letters, aligning each letter to each
corresponding place and outline.
When installing more than one line, you will want to work from top to bottom. Be sure not to discard
any part of the pattern you may need for letters below the line you are working on.
Step 7: Begin placing your letters. You will remove the release liner from the double sided tape and align
to the pattern. Press firmly to set the letter. Continue this method until all letters are installed.
Step 8: Remove the pattern from the wall, clean the wall and letters of any marks and use the rag to
fully clean up debris.
