Construction Signs

Construction Zone / Job Site Signs / Danger / Hazard / Safety Signs

Treasure Valley / Ada County: Boise, Nampa, Meridian, Kuna, Eagle, Garden City, ID

All employees and visitors should be aware of the potential dangers they could encounter on a construction site. Construction signs help provide clarity to workers by giving essential information in the form of warning, wayfinding, and prohibitive area signs to help avoid potential accidents. Safe condition signs and fire equipment signs are also present on most job sites in case of an emergency.

TYPES OF CONSTRUCTION SIGNS

While construction safety signs come in many different forms, they serve the same purpose – to protect workers and visitors from potential hazards. With all the construction going on around town, including at Vista Point near the Boise airport, these signs can be a big help. Here are some of the most common types of construction signs:

WARNING SIGNS

A warning sign alerts you of potential risks. They have a black triangle with an exclamation point inside and are often used to indicate hazards that could cause death or severe injury. Any text must be black text on yellow. Some commonly seen warning signs on construction sites are “Danger – Asbestos,” “Caution – Wet Floor,” and “Warning – This Area Is Under Video Surveillance.”

MANDATORY SIGNS

A mandatory sign tells you what you must do to stay safe. They have a blue circle with a white symbol or text inside and are used to indicate the required safety equipment that must be worn at all times. Common mandatory signs on construction sites are “Hard Hats Must Be Worn Beyond This Point” and “Eye Protection Required Beyond This Point.”

PROHIBITION SIGNS

A prohibition sign tells you what you must not do to stay safe. They have a red circle with a white symbol or text inside and are used to indicate actions that are strictly prohibited. Common prohibition signs on construction sites are “No Smoking Beyond This Point” and “No Entry Beyond This Point.”

SAFE CONDITION SIGNS

Safe condition signs are used to indicate areas that are safe to enter or use. They have a green square with a white symbol or text inside and are often seen on doors, gates, and exits. Common safe condition signs on construction sites are “Exit” and “First Aid Station.”

FIRE EQUIPMENT SIGNS

Fire equipment signs indicate the location of fire extinguishers, sprinklers, and other fire safety equipment. They have a white rectangle with a red symbol or text inside and often also include the words “Fire Extinguisher.” Common fire equipment signs on construction sites are “Fire Extinguisher” and “Sprinkler.”
