Darrin Lawrence Adopts City Through Texas State Historical Association

Darrin Lawrence, franchisee at FASTSIGNS® of Richardson, cares about getting to the root of things. Because of this, he was recently learning more about the City of Richardson/ Breckinridge (Prior to being named Richardson) where his new sign business is located. When presented with an opportunity, he decided to officially adopt the city through his sign business with a donation to the Texas State Historical Association.

“I support the City of Richardson as a business owner, and it was a natural response to support this wonderful area with such a rich history,” said Lawrence.

As someone who grew up in Garland, Darrin’s personal roots aren’t far from the historic pioneers and city history he had been researching. His business is located near historic Brick Row and McKamy park, home of the aptly named McKamy springs after Texas became a Republic. Because Benjamin Prigmore was an instrumental pioneer in this area of Texas, Darrin dedicated this adoption in honor of him.

As quoted in Benjamin Prigmore’s obituary by his loving granddaughter, Bertha Prigmore Bowser, his death and who he was is described as follows: “the will of God, but ’tis hard to give up the grand old Bulwarks of our commonwealth like Uncle Ben (as he was fondly known to others) who gave their vigor of manhood to make out history sublime and the wisdom and prudence of their declining years to the elevation and upbuilding of society.”

During Darrin’s earlier years working in the construction industry, he would often do additional “digging” into the history behind his building sites.

“I love knowing about what came before and the history of an area,” said Lawrence. “I think it helps ground you to the present when you know more about the past.”

Like the pioneering Texas spirits who came before him, Darrin brings a similar spirit to his business, which he bravely opened during a worldwide pandemic. Darrin is also a veteran and started the Sarge-N-Stripes Podcast, where he features local veterans and business owners.
