ADA-Compliant Signage for Las Vegas Facilities
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) establishes accessibility requirements for signs that identify permanent rooms, provide directions, or mark accessible features. Standards vary by purpose and placement, so each sign may require a different combination of tactile, visual, and symbolic elements.
Common accessible signage considerations include:
- Tactile room identification: Signs identifying permanent rooms and spaces may require raised characters and Braille. Examples include restroom, office, and room identification signs.
- Visual readability: Required visual characters generally need a non-glare finish and sufficient contrast between the text and background.
- Accessible feature identification: The International Symbol of Accessibility identifies or directs visitors to accessible entrances, restrooms, parking spaces, and other accessible elements.
- Directional information: Wayfinding signage may be required when an entrance, elevator, restroom, or another feature isn’t accessible from a particular route.
Nevada projects may be subject to the 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design, International Building Code Chapter 11, and amendments adopted by Southern Nevada jurisdictions. The relevant requirements should be reviewed for the project and location before fabrication. General sign information isn’t a substitute for a formal code determination from the appropriate authority.
Accessible Parking Sign Requirements in Nevada
Accessible parking signs in Las Vegas must account for state requirements as well as accessibility standards. Nevada Revised Statutes 484B.467 requires these signs to display the International Symbol of Accessibility and the phrase “reserved parking for persons with disabilities.” They must also include a statement of the minimum fine, a telephone number, and the phrase “towed at owner’s expense.”
Mounting height matters, too. The bottom edge of an accessible parking sign must generally be at least 60 inches above the ground. When the sign is within a pedestrian circulation path, the minimum height increases to 80 inches. Site conditions and the permitting jurisdiction can affect the final sign plan, so placement should be confirmed before installation.
Regulatory & Safety Signs for Clear Facility Communication
Accessible signs are one part of a coordinated facility sign system. We also produce custom regulatory and safety signs that communicate operating rules, required notices, hazards, and emergency directions.
Facility sign categories may include:
- Occupant load signs for public assembly rooms and other spaces where posting is required
- Exit and egress signs that identify exits and support required circulation routes
- Hazard and warning signs that communicate site-specific cautions and restricted areas
- Wayfinding signs that direct visitors to entrances, elevators, restrooms, and key destinations
- Room identification signs that label permanent rooms, departments, and functional spaces
Visibility, illumination, wording, and placement requirements differ by sign type. By planning these elements together, we can coordinate required information with the facility’s broader visual system instead of treating each sign as an unrelated addition.
One Team for Sign Surveys, Permitting, & Installation
Sign approvals aren’t handled by a single regional authority. The City of Las Vegas and Clark County are separate permitting jurisdictions, while other Southern Nevada cities maintain their own requirements. We provide survey and permitting assistance to help clients identify the appropriate jurisdiction and navigate applicable sign approval steps.
Our services include design, fabrication, installation, and project management. Depending on the sign and environment, we can develop acrylic, metal, or engraved options that balance durability, readability, and the facility’s visual style.
Our location holds a 4.9 average customer rating. That feedback reflects our coordinated approach to managing visual communication projects from planning through installation.
We turn everyday spaces into exciting environments to meet your business goals.
