On the night of Friday, July 26th, local fans were treated to a special match at a stadium renowned for hosting some of the best players in the game, including several who are currently competing at the Olympic Games in Paris this month. Expectations were high as it was announced that the crowd in Portland had the potential to surpass the Wrexham AFC Women’s record attendance set in March 2023.
The match featured a talented young Thorns side facing off against the Red Dragons. Given the standout performances from first-team players like Sophia Smith, it was no surprise to see the Thorns showcase their impressive skills.
FASTSIGNS Tigard was honored to create the signage, flags, and commemorative items exchanged between the teams and ownership before the match.
Portland native and actress Kaitlin Olson attended the game with her husband, Rob McElhenney, who co-owns Wrexham AFC with Ryan Reynolds.
The match at Providence Park was the final stop on the 2024 Wrex Coast Tour, which included two previous matches in Los Angeles this past week. This was the first time the Wrexham AFC Women’s team traveled to the U.S.
Despite the Thorns’ commanding 7-0 victory, the game set a new record for Wrexham AFC Women’s team attendance, with 10,379 supporters in the stands.
