How does your business ‘measure’ up?

Cultivating a positive work environment does more than generate good morale within an organization – it has the possibility of becoming contagious and your customer picking up the positive vibes.

An example of a positive work environment is FASTSIGNS Conroe, owned by husband and wife team Chris and Lisa Farr. We sat down with the Farr’s as they tell us about their “Wall of Tall” – their take on a nostalgic childhood memory.

Q: When did the wall start?

A: The wall came to be in 2007

Q: Why did you start the wall?

A: As a way to “memorialize” our team. We know that people come and go. It’s nice to remember and reflect on time past and those who have either been employees at or visited our center.

Q: How many heights do you have?

A: At this moment we have about 65 people’s heights measured – and we are adding more and more all the time.

Q: What is the shortest height?

A: The shortest height we have is a former employee’s daughter who was standing tall at 3’8”.

Q: What is the tallest height?

A: 6’6” is the highest we have had been measured – and that belongs to our financial advisor.

Q: How has this impacted your centers overall culture?

A: Positively! Team members look at and talk about the people and guests on it. It’s an honor to be inducted onto the “Wall of Tall”.

Q: Do people (employees/customers/vendors) ever ask to be measured?

A: Typically at first glance they are not, but once we explain it - they’re eager to get marked on the “Wall of Tall”.

Q: Who is the most “random” person to be measured?

A: Well, there’s this “little person” that lives in the area and makes his living doing costumed appearances. He came into our center dressed as a leprechaun to order some business cards … and the rest is history! We actually invited him to our annual Christmas party that year and he came as “Mini Santa” – what a hoot!

Q: Is there is anything else that you would like to share regarding your popular “Wall of Tall”?


A: It’s kind of like that closet wall or door jamb your parents would measure you against when you were growing up. It’s just fun to see the progression of people, the younger ones grow up, some memories of people are delightful and for the statistician in all of us, it’s been a cool evolution of a scatter plot of height!
