FASTSIGNS® of Ottawa, ON - Nepean, a local sign and graphics provider, is now open under the direction of Renji Cherian and Ceema Renji Cherian. The couple has come to their new business venture with various talents that will set them apart.
Renji has worked in the oil and gas industry for 24 years in various locations around the globe including United Arab Emirates, Oman, Qatar, Yemen, India, Canada and the USA. He held positions in field operation, sales, business management and project management.
“When my career brought us to Canada, I fell in love with the country and how they welcomed a diverse mix of people. During my last assignment in Houston, Texas, when the time came to leave the oil and gas industry, I had no doubt in my mind that I was heading north to settle down in Canada and make it our new home,” said Renji. “The international exposure gave me a good understanding of various cultures and Canada, especially Ottawa with the multiculturally diverse demography, I was able to relate to the various communities.”
Renji’s wife, Ceema Renji Cherian, is an artist who works with oil, acrylic and watercolor. She has conducted various exhibitions in several locations where they have lived, and she also sells her work online. As a result, their children, Joan and Jeremy are also creative and enjoy art as both a hobby and as a business. Joan has her own online boutique selling artwork on clothes, bags and stones. Creativity that runs in the family will be a valuable asset in developing unique artwork, particularly in branding. A special feature of the region is that both English and French are widely spoken and reflected in the City’s culture and commerce. Ottawa is also multicultural with a large and growing immigrant population that enriches the city.
On the economic front, Ottawa is a major economic engine, offering jobs and opportunities in high-tech industries, government, and important sectors such as health and education. The City is home to world-class research centres, top-notch academic institutions and operations by major international companies.
FASTSIGNS is located off Hunt club road which serves as a busy, primary connector road running east-west of Ottawa. With businesses spawning all along this road and in the feeder roads, 20 Gurudwara serves as an ideal location for visibility from the Hunt club road and access.
“Once I had decided that I no longer wanted to be employed, I chose a franchise which had a proven business model,” said Renji. “I believed this would reduce the learning curve and help us grow quicker. FASTSIGNS was an ideal solution for me to deploy my transferable skills, have greater work-life balance, grow business connections, and more.”
They are members of the Ottawa Board of Trade, and they also plan to be involved with the YMCA or Rotary soon.
“Customers will be at the center of our decisions and workflow, hence making sure customer needs and desires are heard and addressed,” said Renji. “We will be involved in community development and sponsorships that assist the overall betterment of the society. We also look forward to focusing on waste reduction and strive to deploy sustainable products and solutions.”
