(KANKAKEE, Ill.) February 8, 2016 – On Jan. 29, students from Manteno High School visited FASTSIGNS® of Kankakee, IL as part of the school’s vocational program where they learned about career development, job responsibilities, employee expectations and how to apply for a job.
“We were thrilled to host students at our center and give them a hands-on learning experience outside of the classroom,” said Sonya Comer, who owns FASTSIGNS® of Kankakee, IL with her husband, Dave. “The students received a tour of our facility, heard from our team members about their job responsibilities and learned tips for applying for a job and getting hired. Then, they divided into groups and participated in a scavenger hunt, did mock interviews and learned to weed vinyl in our production room.”
The Manteno High School Vocational Program provides Work-Based Learning activities to help students prepare for career opportunities and develop workplace skills by expanding classroom instruction into the community.
“By helping students in high school, especially as a lot of them are looking at careers in business or technology, we let them see what to expect in the workplace when they graduate,” Comer said. “At FASTSIGNS® of Kankakee, IL, we also wanted to show them that the workplace can be fun too.”
