ADA Compliant Signage in Brea

Regulatory Signs, Safety Signs & Custom Accessible Signage

Non-compliant signage isn’t just a design problem. It’s a liability. The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 requires buildings to include accessible signage throughout, and California adds requirements on top of federal law through Title 24 and Assembly Bill 1732. At FASTSIGNS® of Brea, CA, we pair content development, graphic design, and project management with sign production so specifications are confirmed before a sign is produced rather than corrected after installation.

Regulatory and warning signs communicate your policies, inform visitors of laws and requirements, and help keep your facility safe and compliant. We offer a wide range of ADA compliant signs, including braille and graphic signs, that combine functionality with design so your space looks intentional rather than patchworked together.

Ready to bring your facility into compliance? Call us at (714) 451-4076 to request a quote for ADA signage or any regulatory and warning signs your Brea business needs.

Where Regulatory Signs Belong

Regulatory and warning signs appear throughout a building wherever visitors need clear direction or must be informed of rules. We produce signs for stairwells, elevators, fire exits, entryways, and parking lots, as well as construction sites and private property where compliance information needs to be communicated clearly. Common topics include restricted-access notices, no-smoking policies, accessible parking, and other facility-specific rules. Positioned correctly, these signs help protect your visitors and can reduce your exposure.

ADA Sign Design & Mounting Standards

Federal ADA standards set specific requirements for how accessible signs must be designed and installed.

Typography & Contrast
ADA compliant signs must use a sans serif font with no added stylistic features. Background and text colors must show sufficient contrast so the sign is readable for people with low vision.

Tactile Characters & Braille
Tactile lettering must be uppercase and between 5/8 inch and 2 inches in height. Grade II braille is placed directly below the tactile text, separated by a minimum of 3/8 inch from other sign elements. Signs identifying a permanent space must include tactile text descriptors and may incorporate pictograms such as a wheelchair symbol or gender icon.

Mounting Location & Height
The baseline of tactile characters must be mounted between 48 and 60 inches above the finished floor. Signs go on the latch side of the door, not on the door itself. If the specified location doesn’t have enough room, the sign may be installed on the nearest adjacent wall in a clearly visible spot.

California Title 24 & AB 1732 Requirements

California Building Code Title 24, Part 2, Chapter 11B sets additional accessibility signage requirements beyond federal ADA standards. Maintained by the state’s Division of the State Architect, Chapter 11B covers permanent room signs, accessible parking, and path-of-travel signage.

Restroom signage is one area that trips up many businesses. Under CBC 11B-703.7.2.6, California requires its geometric door symbol (the circle-and-triangle system) to be centered on the door at a height of 58 to 60 inches. Under Assembly Bill 1732, effective March 1, 2017, all single-user toilet facilities in California business establishments, places of public accommodation, and government agencies must be identified as all-gender facilities with signage that complies with Title 24. A single-user facility is defined as one with no more than one water closet and one urinal with a user-controlled locking mechanism. If your building has any single-occupancy restrooms, this requirement applies to you.

How We Handle a Compliant Signage Project

Our team includes visual communication professionals, project managers, and graphic designers who manage projects from start to finish. That coordinated approach matters here because a mistake in the design phase is far easier to correct than one discovered after signs are mounted on walls. For bulk or multi-sign orders, the process is straightforward: provide the specifics of each sign, and our team can confirm compliance before production begins. Signs can be ordered in any quantity, so whether you’re outfitting a single suite or an entire building, we can scale to fit the project.
