University’s Art and Technology Building Gets Creative Transformation
The Challenge
Gannon University’s $41 million dollar investment package for the Institute for Health and Cyber Knowledge (I-HACK) center required visual communications that matched the cutting-edge facility design and ever-changing innovation for the health and cyber industry. The building identification and wayfinding signs for the building needed to continue the global state-of-the-art vision of the university.
The Solution
The FASTSIGNS® of Erie team was given an overview of the building design and basic concept for a monument sign. Gannon University’s creative and brand strategist reached out to the team of FASTSIGNS of Erie to design the structure within their concept but using the creative fabrication processes and materials they have come to trust from the FASTSIGNS team. In the initial phase of the project, FASTSIGNS went head to head with a local competitor on concepts for the monument sign. Gannon University was so impressed with FASTSIGNS’ creativity that they selected their proposal. From there, the project grew to include frosted window graphics, wall vinyl, dimensional acrylic, 3M FASARA decorative window film, and a one-of-a-kind illuminated trimless channel letter. The window film on the second floor is 3M Fasara. The frosted window film on the first floor may seem like a random barcode pattern, however, the pattern takes inspiration from Nikola Tesla’s famous quote “If you only knew the magnificence of 3, 6, and 9, then you would have a key to the universe.” The aspect ratio of the patterns, a concept designed by the customer, reflects 3, 6, and 9.
The Result
Gannon University desired to showcase I-HACKS’ interactive classrooms and laboratories that engage students in designing devices that are on the forefront of today’s cyber intelligence technology. The graphics and signage at the I-HACK building set it apart from any other building. After all of the work was completed, Gannon held a showcase event for all of the project donors. The large trimless channel letter on the third floor was a focal point of the high-quality project the entire night.
