Washington Department of Transportation Brings Branding Up-To-Speed with Custom Visuals

The Challenge

The Washington State Department of Transportation faced the challenge of transitioning from outdated WWII barracks and warehousing to a new, modern headquarters. Their objective was to create a more contemporary and open office environment for their staff. In selecting a sign company, they sought an experienced expert who could effectively manage the project’s intricate details, including color specifications and permitting. Additionally, as a state business, the department prioritized equal opportunity in contracting with diverse businesses, which led them to choose a franchisee that was a woman, veteran, and disabled-owned business.

The Solution

FASTSIGNS® designed and created acrylic dimensional letters and logos, vertically mounted on the side of the building. Exterior plank siding required FASTSIGNS to think creatively in how to hang the heavy dimensional sign for long-term stability. They also had to ensure that no drilled holes would allow moisture inside the building. The team also managed the permitting process and paid careful attention to the municipality formula to ensure the sign permits would be fully approved. FASTSIGNS also had to be precise in finding a color that would match the building’s exterior. For the headquarters’ monument sign, the team manufactured and installed a DiNoc exterior wrap around the base, complemented by dimensional

letters, providing a striking entrance to the new facility. Inside the building, FASTSIGNS produced and installed a variety of interior architectural ADA signs and other compliance signs across restrooms, stairs and showers.

The Result

The collaboration resulted in a spacious and contemporary workspace for the department’s regional staff. The new headquarters now displays a modern look that reflects the organization’s commitment to innovation and progress.
