Designing a Warehouse that Wows from the Outside In

The Challenge

Walker Lumber is a contractor and retailer that provides building materials to professional contractors, custom homebuilders and subcontractors. The main  challenge of this project was creating and replacing a large building sign in compliance with the city of Nashville. Since they had moved into a larger facility,  they needed branded exterior signage, interior signs to showcase brands they carried and wayfinding signage to direct people to products available, while  guiding them through the expansive lumber yard.  

The Solution  

FASTSIGNS® creatively tackled the exterior sign by using two 12’ electrical tree signs for each corner of the building as well as a 44.5’ large illuminated pole sign. This required extensive engineering and assistance with permitting that had to be approved by the city. FASTSIGNS submitted drawings to an engineer, which the city requires for signoff, as well as additional architectural drawings for city approval. FASTSIGNS also worked closely with an electrician since Nashville requires a licensed electrician to officially pull the permit. FASTSIGNS helped Walker Lumber raise business visibility by installing branded vehicle graphics. Interior signs showcased the brands carried, using various applications including PVC panels displaying brand marketing photos, illuminated aisle signs, end cap signs, engraving stock locker tags and product tags. Curbside pickup signs, a must-have for retailers today, and directional graphics were the finishing touches for this comprehensive project.  

The Result 

The exterior signs created maximum visibility due to size, illumination and their strategic placement. Interior signs branded the new space and directed  people through the expansive lumber yard. Walker Lumber now has consistent branding from the outside-in. They have increased business by 20%  and were awarded the 2023 Dealer of the Year by Lumber and Building Materials Journal.
