Award-Winning Locker Room Transformation
Overview
FASTSIGNS Mobile Bay was honored with First Runner-Up in the FASTSIGNS International Project of the Year competition for transforming the varsity football locker room at UMS-Wright Preparatory School. Selected from projects across more than 790 FASTSIGNS centers worldwide, the installation was recognized for its creative storytelling, innovative design, and lasting impact on one of Mobile's most respected athletic programs.
The Challenge
UMS-Wright wanted more than an updated locker room—they wanted an environment that reflected the tradition, excellence, and championship culture of one of Alabama's premier football programs.
The existing space lacked the energy and visual impact expected of a top-tier athletic facility, while the school's rich history deserved to be celebrated in a meaningful way. The challenge was creating an immersive environment that honored decades of football tradition while inspiring current players and future generations. Adding to the complexity, many of the historic photographs were only available in old yearbooks and could not be enlarged for large-format graphics without losing quality.
The Solution
FASTSIGNS Mobile Bay partnered closely with UMS-Wright to design a complete environmental graphics package that transformed the locker room into a powerful visual experience.
The project included custom floor-to-ceiling wall murals, dimensional lettering, championship recognition displays, motivational messaging, and historical photo collages that tell the story of the football program throughout the space.
When archival images couldn't be reproduced at the necessary scale, our team developed a creative solution by recreating historic photographs with current student-athletes wearing era-specific uniforms and equipment. These custom images were blended with authentic historical photography to create a seamless visual timeline that connects past and present while reinforcing the school's identity, traditions, and values.
The Result
The transformed locker room delivers a collegiate-level atmosphere that celebrates UMS-Wright's football legacy while motivating the next generation of athletes.
What was once a standard locker room is now an immersive environment filled with school pride, championship history, and inspirational messaging that reminds players what it means to wear the UMS-Wright uniform.
The project strengthened team culture, elevated the athlete experience, and created a space worthy of one of Alabama's most respected football programs. The project was recognized nationally as First Runner-Up in the FASTSIGNS International Project of the Year competition, highlighting the creativity, craftsmanship, and collaboration behind the transformation.
