FASTSIGNS of Richardson volunteers with Wreaths Across America

Author: FASTSIGNS® of Richardson, TX

This past December FASTSIGNS® of Richardson volunteered for the 3rd year in a row at Wreaths Across America, an annual gathering where volunteers place wreaths on the headstones of past Military Veterans.

More than two million volunteers and supporters gather to Remember, Honor and Teach at more than 4,225 participating locations in all 50 states, at sea and abroad. It is a very heartfelt and honorable way to pay tribute to those who have served our country. As the holiday season unfolds, volunteers gather with a shared sense of gratitude and respect at National Cemeteries. The simple act of adorning each headstone with a festive wreath not only honors the memory of the fallen but also brings a touch of warmth and remembrance to the solemn grounds.

Mary Lawrence, wife to owner Darrin Lawrence, has the honor of placing a wreath on her father’s headstone prior to the start of the wreath laying ceremony.

“Wreaths across America has become one of my very favorite holiday traditions. It is a great privilege to be able to honor my Dad by placing a wreath on his grave. It is so humbling  to watch my family, along with hundreds of volunteers, from all walks of life, respectfully putting wreaths on the veterans graves and saying each name out loud. Before the ceremony begins, we are reminded of a quote from Ernest Hemingway, “Every man has two deaths: when he is buried in the ground and the last time someone says his name.” I love that we are keeping these brave men and women alive through this great organization.”- Mary Lawrence

The tradition of wreath-laying transcends the individual, fostering a collective spirit of unity and gratitude within the community. Through this act of volunteerism, participants not only celebrate the holiday season but also create a meaningful connection with the past, ensuring that the sacrifices of veterans are never forgotten.
