(SCRANTON, Pa.) – Al and Mary Jo Arnal, owners of FASTSIGNS® of Scranton, recently purchased a state-of-the-art Océ Arizona 460 GT flatbed printer, meaning big changes for not only their center’s production capabilities but also for their location’s layout.
In order to get the approximately 15 foot by 6 ½ foot printer into the center, the team had to replace the single door on the back of the building with a double door and then remove a wall inside the center. It took five men to bring the almost 2,000 pound machine inside.
“Our new flatbed printer is so large because it is such a versatile machine. A printer like this makes it possible for us to print on almost any rigid or flexible material, and the material can be up to two inches thick,” explained Mary Jo. “Doors, ceiling tiles, panes of glass – whatever our customers want their messages to appear on, we’re able to provide it.”
The Arnals first opened their FASTSIGNS center in 1990. At that time, they relied on a plotter to cut lettering and shapes out of vinyl, which then had to be applied by hand to the sign. The Arnals have since updated their production lineup severaltimes and now, with the help of their new flatbed, photographicquality images can be printed directly onto the material composing the sign or graphic.
