At the start of the year, Gulf Shores International Airport faced a high-stakes ultimatum: transform a private aviation strip into a fully operational commercial terminal in just six months. When FASTSIGNS® first arrived, the site was a skeleton of a building surrounded by dirt where runways and parking lots were yet to be paved. The airport required a cohesive, large-scale wayfinding and branding strategy built from the ground up to meet a relentless construction schedule and rigorous security standards.
The Solution:
To manage this massive undertaking, the FASTSIGNS team conducted weekly site visits, adapting designs in real-time as the terminal took shape. From there, they developed a comprehensive exterior program featuring durable monument signage to welcome travelers and dozens of post-and-panel roadway signs to navigate traffic toward the new terminal. To withstand coastal
elements, the team utilized modular, high-wind-load materials that ensured longevity without sacrificing the airport’s modern aesthetic.
Overall, the exterior branding projected a professional image that aligned with the airport’s role as a commercial gateway to Alabama’s Gulf Coast. Transforming the interior was also a critical step in turning the facility into a functional, passenger-ready space. Large-scale directional systems and oversized blade signs guided travelers through check-in, while customized floor graphics and security decals provided essential regulatory information. By managing every detail from permitting to final installation, FASTSIGNS ensured the facility was visually and operationally ready for its debut.
The Result:
The impact was immediate. Since welcoming its inaugural commercial flight on May 21, 2025, over 10,000 passengers have successfully navigated Baldwin County’s only commercial air service.
