(KANKAKEE, Ill.) February 8, 2016 – On Jan. 29, students from Manteno High School visited FASTSIGNS® of Kankakee as part of the school’s vocational program where they learned about career development, job responsibilities, employee expectations and how to apply for a job.
“We were thrilled to host students at our center and give them a hands-on learning experience outside of the classroom,” said Sonya Comer, who owns FASTSIGNS of Kankakee with her husband, Dave. “The students received a tour of our facility, heard from our team members about their job responsibilities and learned tips for applying for a job and getting hired. Then, they divided into groups and participated in a scavenger hunt, did mock interviews and learned to weed vinyl in our production room.”
The Manteno High School Vocational Program provides Work-Based Learning activities to help students prepare for career opportunities and develop workplace skills by expanding classroom instruction into the community.
“By helping students in high school, especially as a lot of them are looking at careers in business or technology, we let them see what to expect in the workplace when they graduate,” Comer said. “At FASTSIGNS of Kankakee, we also wanted to show them that the workplace can be fun too.”
